City Offices to Close in Observance of Thanksgiving

GREENSBORO, NC -- (November 17, 2008) – City of Greensboro offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, in observance of Thanksgiving. The following services and facilities will operate on a holiday schedule:

  • No garbage, recycling, bulk trash, yard waste and appliance collections will take place Thursday, November 27. Thursday’s collection will take place Wednesday, November 26. Friday’s collection remains the same.
  • The White Street Landfill and Solid Waste Transfer Station will both be closed on Thursday, November 27. Regular hours will resume Friday, November 28.
  • All branches of the Greensboro Public Library will be closed Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28. Regular hours resume Saturday, November 29. The Greensboro Historical Museum will also be closed Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28. Regular hours will resume Saturday, November 29.
  • The Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) will not operate Thursday, November 27. On Friday, November 28, service will operate on a Saturday schedule. Regular service will resume on Saturday, November 29. HEAT will offer no service on routes 74 and 75 Wednesday, November 26, and no service on any routes Thursday, November 27, or Friday, November 28. Regular service on HEAT route 70/71 will resume on Sunday, November 30. During this time, HEAT riders are asked to consider using GTA routes which serve many HEAT destinations. Regular service on all HEAT routes will resume Monday, December 1. Limited life-sustaining service is available on SCAT Thanksgiving Day only for people confined to wheelchairs. Call 333-6589 for reservations. Normal SCAT service will resume Friday, November 28. No Career Express service will be offered on Thursday, November 27, or Friday, November 28. Regular Career Express service will resume Monday, December 1.
