Greensboro Police Series to Focus on Safety, Prevention
GREENSBORO, NC – (August 25, 2008) – The first in a new series of safety-themed television programs developed by the Greensboro Police Department debuted on Government Cable Channel 13 on Friday, August 22.
The one- to two-minute programs feature Greensboro Police officers sharing tips on how Greensboro residents can help protect themselves, their families and their property.
“Our officers are out there every day working to protect people in this city,” said Police Chief Tim Bellamy. “But it’s important that residents also take the initiative to help protect themselves. That’s why we named this series ‘Partners in Safety.’ We wanted to emphasize the need for that partnership between the Police Department and the residents of Greensboro.”
Each program in the series will focus on a different topic and will feature a different officer. The first program features Officer Steve Roberts, a member of the GPD’s Community Resource Team, addressing the importance of Community Watch groups and the positive effect they can have on neighborhoods.
Future programs will highlight topics such as crime prevention through landscaping, Internet safety, and preventing identity theft, Bellamy said.
“Partners in Safety” is one of two innovative new TV programs developed by the GPD this year. The other program, “GPD: In Service,” is a talk show that highlights various services provided by the Police Department, as well as issues that are of interest to the community. “GPD: In Service” airs monthly on Channel 13.
“Partners in Safety” is airing between scheduled programs. “GPD: In Service” airs several times every month. Visit the City’s website at www.greensboro-nc.gov/channel13 to view the program schedule.
