Holiday Trash Collection and Recycling Reminders

GREENSBORO, NC – (December 18, 2008) – With the holidays almost here, the City of Greensboro Field Operations Department wants to remind you of the following information:

Holiday Trash and Recycling Collection Schedule

  • There will be no collection on Christmas Day - Thursday, December 25. Thursday collection will take place on Wednesday, December 24. Friday collection remains the same.
  • There will be no collection on New Year’s Day – Thursday, January 1. Thursday collection will take place on Wednesday, December 31. Friday collection remains the same.

Recycle Your Christmas Trees
Once the holidays are over, Greensboro residents can recycle their live Christmas trees by placing them at the curb on their regular garbage collection day. All lights, ornaments, wire, tinsel, and tree stands should be removed. Trees that are over five feet tall should be cut in half or into manageable segments.

Christmas wreaths with wire backs can not be recycled; however, if the greenery is removed and placed at the curb, it will be collected.

Collected Christmas trees and greenery are made into mulch to fertilize City gardens and landscaped areas. The mulch can also be purchased at the White Street Landfill.

Other Holiday Recycling
Be sure to break down any large cardboard boxes you may have in order to fit them in your recycling container. If you have too much recycling for your container, please take overflow recyclables to one of the City’s 17 drop-off sites.
