City Manager Names Assistant City Manager of Economic Development Services
GREENSBORO, NC -- (December 19, 2008) – Greensboro City Manager Mitchell Johnson announced today the selection of Jim Westmoreland as Assistant City Manager of Economic Development Services. The selection of Westmoreland concludes an internal recruiting and interviewing process.
Westmoreland, who served as acting Assistant City Manager of Economic Development Services since March, will oversee the City’s economic development activities, provide support services to Greensboro businesses, and serve as a liaison between City government and the business community.
“After going thorough our review process, I chose Jim because he is a proven leader in our organization and community,” said Johnson. “He has provided excellent service as acting assistant city manager and demonstrates a strong commitment to strengthening the area’s economy. During this critical time, that is exactly the type of leadership we need. Now that Jim is no longer in the acting role, I will be reviewing our organizational structure to further distribute the workload in the City Manager’s office.”
Before being named Assistant City Manager, Westmoreland served as the City’s Director of Transportation for nearly a decade from 1999 to early 2008. He also served as the City’s Engineering and Planning Manager of Transportation from 1996 to 1999. Westmoreland holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. Westmoreland’s salary will change from $115,446.00 to $126,446.00.
“I am truly honored and humbled to be asked by the City Manager to serve our organization and community in this important capacity,” said Westmoreland. “Going forward, I plan to continue to focus on the economic development priorities of our City Council and the many needs of our community.”
Due to the present hiring freeze, the vacancy created by Westmoreland‘s promotion will not be filled at this time. Adam Fischer will continue to serve as acting Director of Transportation, a role he’s held since March 2008.
