Greensboro Beautiful Annual Awards Presented
Greensboro, NC -- (September 9, 2009) -- Greensboro Beautiful held its annual meeting and awards reception on Thursday, August 27 at Revolution Mill. Each year the organization recognizes individuals, organizations, community efforts, businesses, garden clubs, and schools for outstanding projects and programs that exemplify the organization's mission. This year's awards were presented to:
- Special Recognition Award - Junior League of Greensboro for restorating the Albright House and establishing the Blanche Sternberger Benjamin Park.
- Clean Campus Award - Gateway Education Center for an outstanding job cleaning up its campus, educating students and staff about litter and recycling, and making the school a Litter Free Zone.
- Volunteer Service Award - Alexa Aycock for her leadership of the Center City Park Project.
- Youth Service Award - Girl Scout Troop 826 for its volunteer service in enhancing and improving the gardens at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
- Outstanding Single Project Award - Dr. Albert Michel for his work restorating the Old Presbyterian Cemetery.
- Neighborhood Service Award - Laura Wall for her dedicated service to improving and enhancing the beauty of Aycock Neighborhood.
- Outstanding Board Member Award - Peg Moore for her tireless efforts to make Gateway Gardens a reality.
- Anne Boyd Ecology Award - Joel Landau for his commitment and vision for a “greener” Greensboro.
- Robert L. Garrard Award of Distinction - Starmount Corporation for donating hundreds of acres of land for parks and recreation, developing some of the community’s finest properties, and contributing to the overall beauty and quality of life in Greensboro.
- Lifetime Achievement Award - Jeannette Windham for her many years of leadership, vision, and support of the work of Greensboro Beautiful, especially in the creation and enhancement of the Arboretum.
