City Council Approves FY2009-10 Budget

GREENSBORO, NC -- (June 23, 2009) – In a special meeting held today, Greensboro City Council approved a budget totaling $421,948,889 for fiscal year 2009-2010. The budget includes no tax increase and no increase in water rates.

City Council directed Interim City Manager Bob Morgan to present a budget without any tax increases and with a minimal impact on services. Following a series of community meetings in each Council District and a survey on the budget to get public input, City department heads developed recommendations for Council. Those recommendations helped close a $7.5 million budget gap that was projected for FY2009-10.

The budget adopted by City Council today includes a reduction in City staff, expenses and reserve funds.

The City is required to have a balanced budget. The new fiscal year begins July 1, 2009.
