Community Kick-off Meeting for Downtown Area Consolidated Plan

GREENSBORO, NC (October 12, 2009) – With expanded interest in downtown Greensboro from residents, business owners and developers, it’s a good time to evaluate the growth of downtown and explore the best options for future investments. The City of Greensboro, Guilford County, Action Greensboro and Downtown Greensboro Inc. invite the community to a kick-off meeting for the development of a new Downtown Area Consolidated Plan. The meeting will be held Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Carolina Theatre’s Renaissance Room, 310 S. Greene St.

The goal of the new plan is to create one vision and action plan for downtown that will guide public investments, encourage quality private investments, and connect downtown to adjacent neighborhoods, employment centers and higher education institutions. The plan will also seek to prioritize long-term development opportunities and create strategies to achieve these goals.

Significant input from residents, businesses and property owners, especially those in the downtown area, is needed to develop the Downtown Area Consolidated Plan so that it meets the needs of the community.

For more information, contact Dick Hails, the City’s Planning Director, at 336-373-2144 or Ed Wolverton of Downtown Greensboro Inc. at 336-379-0060.
