Festival of Lights Set for December 4

GREENSBORO, NC -- (November 24, 2009) -- This year's Festival of Lights celebration takes place from 5:45-9 pm Friday, December 4, in downtown Greensboro.

The 21st annual downtown festival kicks off the holiday season with a musical stroll along Elm Street, showcasing more than 200 different performance groups from Center City Park south to Lee Street, across the tracks. Shops and galleries will be decorated in their holiday best and restaurants will be open for festival goers to enjoy a favorite meal or sample something new.

Festival of Lights also features "Winter Wonderland" in Hamburger Square Park, at the intersection of S. Elm and McGee streets. It's here where Santa will be available to chat with children and holiday stories will be read by Greensboro Public Library staff.

The highlight of the evening is the 7:30 pm lighting of a 38-foot Christmas tree, topped by a five-foot star, at Center City Park. Also at the park, will be activities for the family, kids crafts, Holiday Cards to the Troops, a moon bounce, and reindeer antlers.
