Help Greensboro Grow Green City seeks community’s input on making Greensboro more energy efficient
GREENSBORO, NC -- (October 8, 2009) – The City of Greensboro has made a commitment to being ‘green’ by implementing sound, cost-effective energy management and investment practices aimed at lowering energy costs, reducing fossil fuel emissions, slowing climate change and preserving natural resources for future generations. The City is now seeking your ideas on strategies for implementing the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block (EECB) grant, a federal grant the City is applying for to develop and implement projects that improve energy efficiency and reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions.
There are two opportunities for residents to give their input. Meetings will be held Tuesday, October 13, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm and from 6:30-8 pm, at the Central Library, Nussbaum Room, 219 N. Church St. Free parking will be available in the Church Street Parking Deck, located at the corner of North Church Street and YWCA Place.
Input given at these meetings will build on priorities identified in public meetings held in July. The City is working with the Community Sustainability Council to ensure that the projects eventually selected for the EECB grant reflect Greensboro’s priorities and needs.
The City must submit its energy strategy to the US Department of Energy by December 3. If approved, the City will use the strategy to select projects and programs for the EECB program. The EECB grant is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
