National Night Out Takes Place August 4
Police and community work together to prevent crime

GREENSBORO, NC -- (July 28, 2009) – National Night Out (NNO), a crime and drug prevention event sponsored locally by the Greensboro Police Department (GPD), will be held Tuesday, August 4, with events all over the city.

NNO helps raise crime and drug prevention awareness in the community; generates support and participation in local anti-crime activities; helps strengthen the police-to-community partnership; and sends a strong message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, neighborhoods in Greensboro celebrate NNO with block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire departments, parades, flashlight walks, contests and youth programs. Residents interested in participating should contact their GPD Community Resource Officer:

Eastern Division:     Sgt. Allen         373-2135
Central Division:      Sgt. Blaylock    373-2570
Southern Division:   Sgt. Pell           373-7945
Western Division:    Sgt. Uehlein      412-3910

For additional information concerning Greensboro's NNO program, contact GPD’s Community Affairs office at 336-373-2636.
