Community invited to Celebrate National Peace Officers Week with GPD
GREENSBORO, NC -- (May 4, 2009) – The Greensboro Police Department (GPD) will observe National Peace Officers Week May 9-May 14 to pay tribute to officers who serve our community and to remember those who have died in the line of duty.
National Peace Officers Week events in Greensboro will kick off Saturday, May 9, with the 19th annual Law Enforcement Memorial 5K Run to support the Special Olympics. The run will begin at 8:30 am in front of the Phill G. McDonald Governmental Plaza on Greene Street. The Guilford County Law Enforcement Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at Country Hills Golf Course, 5610 Hicone Rd. in Gibsonville. While registration is closed to play in the tournament, the public is welcome to watch from the sidelines.
Celebrations will conclude on Thursday, May 14, with the Police and Citizens Appreciation Dinner and Memorial Ceremony held at 6 pm at the Embassy Suites, 204 Centreport Dr. The ceremony recognizes GPD employees and citizens for exemplary service to the community. Tickets to attend the event are $15 per person.
