City Holds Public Meeting on Downtown’s Future Look
GREENSBORO, NC -- (April 1, 2009) – Downtown Greensboro is changing! In the past few years, renewed interest and development in the downtown area has blossomed, creating an exciting buzz throughout the state. With increased interest in downtown from residents, property owners and developers, the City of Greensboro wants to encourage new development that celebrates downtown Greensboro’s unique character and the areas that support it. On Tuesday, April 28, the City will hold a public meeting to introduce the draft Downtown Greensboro Design and Compatibility Manual. This design manual will guide future development in downtown and is the result of more than two years worth of community input. This meeting is an opportunity for the City to hear feedback about the manual.
The manual seeks to encourage high quality design and infill as stated in Greensboro’s adopted comprehensive plan, Connections 2025. By providing a flexible framework, the manual strives to enhance the city’s urban character, promote a variety of design and maintain long-term compatibility.
Anyone interested in the look of downtown’s future buildings should join us on April 28 from 6-8 pm inside the Community Room of the J. Douglas Galyon Depot, 230 E. Washington St. A copy of the Downtown Design and Compatibility Manual can be found on the City’s Web site at www.greensboro-nc.gov/downtowndesign.
