Volunteers Needed for Annual Shopping Event

GREENSBORO, NC – (November 6, 2009) – Get in the holiday spirit by volunteering for the Greensboro Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities’ 24th annual shopping event. The event, which pairs people with disabilities with volunteers who help them shop for holiday gifts, will be held Thursday, December 3, starting at 8:30 am at Four Seasons Town Centre.

“This is a great opportunity to help others during the holiday season," said Donna Gray, Community Relations Manager for the City of Greensboro and coordinator of the event. “With just a small commitment of time, you can make such a difference in the life of a person with a disability.”

Volunteers of all ages are needed to accompany a shopper with a disability as they shop, visit Santa or enjoy the live entertainment at the amphitheatre. All entertainment is focused on people with disabilities.

The Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities is a coalition of businesses, human service agencies and individuals of all levels of ability. The Committee works to create a barrier-free community and advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities.
