Sidewalk Work in Progress at Downtown Intersections
for Signal System Replacement

GREENSBORO, NC – August 18, 2009 – Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT) reports that work is currently underway to modify traffic signal control cabinets in the downtown area. The purpose of this project is to modify the concrete bases to accept new control cabinets which will be installed as a part of the computerized signal system upgrade. Sidewalk removal and replacement will be necessary at several locations.

Pedestrians and motorists are asked to use caution when walking and driving in these areas.

The current project phase will involve work at 30 intersections downtown and will continue for approximately two months. The overall project will replace the entire system including installation of new controllers at each signalized intersection city-wide as well as an extensive fiber optic communications network.
