City Goes Green with Solar Thermal Panels
GREENSBORO, NC -- (December 8, 2009) – As part of its commitment to keep Greensboro ‘green,’ the City of Greensboro is in the process of installing solar thermal panels onto the roof of the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St. The panels will be used to fuel the building’s hot water system. Work is expected to be complete within the next two weeks.
This is part of the City’s energy savings program -- a team effort lead by the City in partnership with Pepco Energy Services, an energy consultant and contractor -- that focuses on implementing sound, cost-effective energy management and investment practices aimed at lowering energy costs, reducing fossil fuel emissions, slowing climate change and preserving natural resources.
Over the past year, the City has made numerous energy improvements to several of its facilities including installing high-efficiency lighting systems, replacing aging chillers with new, energy-efficient units, upgrading heating, ventilating and air condition systems with energy-efficient components and much more.
