City Submits Economic Stimulus Priority List to State Senate Committee

GREENSBORO, NC -- (March 25, 2009) – The City of Greensboro has provided a retooled economic stimulus priority list to the Select Senate Committee for Economic Recovery. This committee was formed late last week and held its first official meeting yesterday in Raleigh. Greensboro Senator Don Vaughan is a member of that committee.

The retooled list includes 62 projects Greensboro City Council has approved as priority projects for economic stimulus funding, as well as additional projects. As new information has become available about economic stimulus funding, City of Greensboro department heads have identified additional projects that may qualify for funding as part of the stimulus package.

Governor Bev Perdue’s budget recommendations on March 17 reportedly used some of the economic stimulus funding as part of her balanced budget proposal. The Senate committee and a House committee will take up the task of evaluating the Governor’s recommendation for stimulus funding. That review may reflect different priorities than those of the Governor. Some stimulus money has already been committed, for example, highway funding as announced in February will remain in place.

Greensboro’s updated stimulus priority list is attached. For on-going information, visit the City of Greensboro’s economic stimulus Web site at http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/EconomicStimulus.
