New Trash and Recycling Collection Schedule for Central Business District
Increased service meets increased demands of downtown area

GREENSBORO, NC -- (February 13, 2009) -- Beginning Monday, February 16, the City of Greensboro will begin providing trash and recycling collection service to the Central Business District seven days per week. Currently, service is provided six days per week in the morning and at noon. The new collection schedule provides service in the morning and in the evening.

These service changes are being made to meet the increased demands of the growing downtown area, as well as to accommodate downtown businesses that remain open until 5 pm and later. The growing numbers of people, traffic, and businesses in downtown mean additional collection service is needed at later times in the day.

Sheldon Smith, Solid Waste Collections Division Manager, says the changes were made after a three-month review of downtown needs as well as meetings with Downtown Greensboro, Inc. “We look forward to providing collection service that more specifically meets the needs of downtown businesses and that enhances the downtown area,” said Smith.
