City Creates ‘Urban Loop Locator’ Web Site
GREENSBORO, NC – (July 8, 2009) – The City of Greensboro has created an online mapping tool for current and future area residents to use to see if their property of interest is near sections of North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) planned bypass highway around the City. The “Urban Loop Locator” can be accessed from the City's Web site and from the City’s Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) home page. The tool allows users to search specific street addresses to determine where properties are located in relation to what is commonly called the Greensboro Urban Loop, which includes sections now signed as I-85 and I-73 and future sections to be signed I-840 and I-785.
Various sections of the loop, which was planned by NCDOT in the 1990s, have been opened to traffic since 2002, with construction of the next portion currently expected to begin in 2012 and the final portion currently expected to begin after 2015. A link to history about the loop can also be found on the “Urban Loop Locator.”
For more information about the project, call NCDOT’s local office at 334-3192 or GDOT at 373-4368.
