11 Teens Graduate from Youth Citizens’ Police Academy
GREENSBORO, NC -- (August 2, 2010) -- Eleven teenagers recently graduated from the 2010 Youth Citizens' Police Academy (YCPA) for Guilford County high school students, sponsored by the Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) and Greensboro Police Department. The academy offered students a hands-on opportunity to learn about police work, aspects of department operations, and careers in law enforcement. Session topics included SWAT team operations, mechanics of arrest, use of force and firearms safety, resident safety and crime prevention, vice, narcotics and undercover work, and defensive tactics. Demonstrations from the canine unit and bomb squad and involving firearms were also included. Students took guided tours of the adult detention center, communications center, crime scene lab, and police firing range.
The graduates are: Andrew Barham, Hunter Craig, Braulio Culcay, Thomas Hyatt, Nicholas Jermyn, Noel Kincaid, Alexander Leemont, Joseph Long, Kendrik Norris, Quin Peeler, and Michaela White.
