Assistant City Manager of Economic Development Selected

GREENSBORO, NC (January 12, 2010) – Greensboro City Manager Rashad Young announced today the selection of Andrew Scott as assistant city manager of Economic Development. The selection of Scott concludes an extensive recruiting and interviewing process.

Scott, who served as interim assistant city manager of Economic Development Services since March of 2009, will oversee the City’s economic development activities, provide support services to Greensboro businesses and serve as a liaison between City government and the business community.

“Andy has an extensive career and proven track record with community and economic development,” said Young. “The city will be well-served to have him in this role overseeing the important effort to strengthen the economic growth of our community.”

Before being named assistant city manager, Scott served as the City’s director of Housing and Community Development for more than a decade from 1993 to early 2009. He began his career with the City in 1989 as the special assistant to the city manager for Affordable Housing. Scott’s salary will be $121,000.

“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to serve my community in this important capacity,” said Scott. “As our City Council and city manager identify priorities for growth in our community, it will be important that we have a focused strategy to take advantage of the many resources in our community.”

The vacancy created by Scott’s promotion will not be filled at this time. Dan Curry will continue to serve as acting director of Housing and Community Development, a role he’s held since March 2009.
