City Addresses Annexation Reversal
GREENSBORO, NC (February 9, 2010) – The City of Greensboro received word Monday, February 8, that Judge Edwin Wilson of Rockingham County has overturned its June 30, 2009, annexation of three neighborhoods – Laurel Park, Whitehurst Village at Millstream and Hartwood at Millstream. “We were obviously disappointed to hear the judge’s decision and are currently evaluating our options,” said City Manager Rashad Young.
The City announced that its departments will stop providing services to the neighborhoods based on the following schedule:
- The Greensboro Police Department will stop answering calls beginning Wednesday, February 10, at 12 am. All calls will be transferred to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.
- The Greensboro Fire Department will continue to serve these neighborhoods until a long-term solution can be implemented with Guilford County.
- The last day for trash/recycling collection will be Friday, March 12. There will be no further street or stormwater maintenance or repairs beginning today, Tuesday, February 9.
- Water and sewer rates will double, consistent with the current level for county residents beginning with bills sent March 5.
City officials are currently assessing the impact the ruling will have, if any, on payments made to the City by residents and expenditures made by the City in the impacted region.
