Assessment Panels Selected to Assist with Police Chief Search

GREENSBORO, NC – (July 15, 2010) – Five panels consisting of community representatives and City of Greensboro employees have been appointed to help the City choose the best police chief for the community’s needs. Final candidates for the job will participate in specially designed Panel Assessment activities later this month.

Panels consist of local public safety officials, business community representatives, neighborhood representatives, and residents from each City Council district selected by their respective City Council person, as well as Greensboro Police Department (GPD) officials and employees.

“The assessment process, which includes public and internal panels, will help us match the criteria we have developed for a new police chief with the strengths and experiences our exceptional candidates possess,” says City Manager Rashad Young. “The process is a continuation of how we began this search using comments from the public through community meetings and an online survey to help establish criteria by which to narrow the field of potential candidates. Even though the ultimate hiring decision rests with me, we continue to rely on the perspective of our entire community as a guide.”

Current GPD Police Chief Tim Bellamy retires July 31 from public service with the City. The national job search has been conducted by DHR International of Ohio.
