GYC Artistry Awards Announces Finalists

GREENSBORO, NC -- (February 4, 2010) -- On February 27, some of Guilford County’s most talented high school dancers, singers and actors will compete for over $2,000 in prizes at the Artistry Awards show. The competition will begin at 6:30 pm at the Coliseum’s Odeon Theatre. The show will open with a violin performance by fourth graders from Peeler Open Elementary School. The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) event highlights finalists’ work in the categories of drama, dance, vocal, instrumental, print art, visual art and creative writing. Local judges,
chosen for their expertise and knowledge, selected the finalists at an open audition in February.

Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, Moore Music, and the Greensboro Coliseum join GYC in sponsoring this event. Finalists, their schools and area of competition are as follows:

Dance: Kathryn Payne, St. Pius High School; group from Greensboro Ballet; group from The Pointe! Studio of Dance; and Connor Sputjens, Grimsley High School.

Instrumental: Ben Evans, Weaver Academy; Anderson Kursonis, home school; and Ileana Le, Penn-Griffin.

Visual Art: Caroline Cox, Greensboro Day School; Caroline Pinkleton, Greensboro Day School; Aleska Kirsteins, Greensboro Day School; Patrick Wren, Greensboro Day Central; Hanna Chong, Ragsdale, Jessica Bowie, Ragsdale; Mary Chong, Ragsdale.
