GPAL Youth Take on GPD in November 19 Basketball Challenge

Greensboro, NC – (November 17, 2010) – Youth from the Guilford County Police Athletic/Activities League (GPAL) take on Greensboro Police Department (GPD) officers in the third annual Community Basketball Challenge at 6 pm Friday, November 19, at the Windsor Recreation Center, 1601 E. Lee St. The event is free and open to the public.

In addition to basketball, there will be music, games, dancing, food and networking. “This has been a great benefit to officers and for community relations," says J.L. Stroud, GPD's event organizer. "The community youth get to know us as individuals, not just 'the police,' which makes our job easier.”

Along with the Community Basketball Challenge, GPAL continues to sponsor a state basketball and cheerleading mentoring program, Youth Financial Fitness, and youth leadership conferences. GPAL was organized in 2007 as a charter member of NC PAL and National PAL with the purposes of building community and providing youth with “somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to be.”
