Annual MLK Memorial Breakfast Set for January 18

GREENSBORO, NC -- (January 5, 2010) -- The Greensboro Human Relations Commission's annual Memorial Breakfast in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. takes place at 7:30 am Monday, January 18, at the Sheraton Hotel, Four Seasons/Koury Convention Center.

Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are $20 each and seating is limited. (No tickets will be sold at the door.) For reservations or additional information, contact the City's Human Relations Department at 373-2038.

Rev. Dr. Charles E. Goodman Jr., senior pastor/teacher of the Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga., will be the keynote speaker. Goodman, a native of North Carolina, is a Dudley High School graduate. He graduated with honors from Wake Forest University and received a master's divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. In 2009, Goodman received his doctorate ministry degree at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. His preaching ministry started at age 21 and his pastoral ministry at 23.

After serving the congregation of Pleasant View Baptist Church in east Alabama for three years, Goodman accepted the role of pastor/teacher for the Historic Tabernacle in 2006 at age 27 with a congregation whose membership exceeded 3,000. He is featured on the Kingdom Living TV broadcast and on Streamingfaith.com.
 
Among his many accomplishments and recognitions, Goodman was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers of Morehouse College in 2008, voted one of Americas Most Loved Pastors by Gospel Today Magazine (September 2006), and recognized by the African American Pulpit (summer 2008).
