GTA's Annual Rosa Parks Day Bus Tour is December 1
GREENSBORO, NC – (November 30, 2010) – On December 1, Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) recognizes Rosa Parks' refusal to abandon her seat on a Montgomery, Ala. transit bus with its annual Rosa Parks Day Bus Tour. A special GTA transit bus will visit Aycock, Kaiser and Allen middle schools to help students learn more about the heroic actions of Congressional Gold Medal winner Parks and the subsequent freedoms we enjoy today because of her actions.
Students will hear a presentation from the City's Public Transportation Manager Elizabeth James, who will share Parks' remarkable story and other stories that relate to civil rights and public transportation in Greensboro. Students will also learn about today’s GTA system and operations on the eve of its 20-year anniversary in 2011. Text of James' presentation as well as video from previous years are available on GTA's website at www.ridegta.com.
To allow GTA riders to participate in the day’s recognition, GTA staff will also distribute Rosa Parks commemorative buttons at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot transit center. Each GTA and HEAT bus also features commemorative plaques positioned near the front of the passenger area to provide a year-round reminder of Parks courage and sacrifice.
