Police Chief Search Nets 2 Finalists
GREENSBORO, NC – (July 19, 2010) – Police professionals from Charlotte, NC, and Elgin, Ill., are the final two candidates for the City of Greensboro’s Chief of Police post. The candidates are: Kenneth C. Miller, senior deputy chief for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and Lisa G. Womack, former police chief of the Elgin Police Department. Read more about them at www.greensboro-nc.gov/Candidates.
Of the more than 200 candidates who applied for the Greensboro job, city officials recently narrowed the field to six, all of whom were interviewed personally before choosing the final two.
Next, the two candidates will participate in specially designed Panel Assessment activities later this month. Panels consist of local public safety officials, business community representatives, neighborhood representatives, and residents from each City Council district, as well as Greensboro Police Department (GPD) officials and employees.
“We are extremely pleased with the quality of candidates who have applied for the job, especially with Miller and Womack,” says City Manager Rashad Young. “Both have served as chief of police or in a senior level command position and are proven professionals.”
Current GPD Police Chief Tim Bellamy retires July 31 from public service with the City. Assistant Police Chief Dwight Crotts has been selected interim chief, effective August 1. The national search for a new chief has been conducted by DHR International of Ohio.
