Apply for City Academy Now Through July 17

GREENSBORO, NC (June 1, 2010) – Want to learn how your local government works? Then sign-up for the City of Greensboro’s public education program, Government Works: A City Academy. The City is accepting applications now through July 17.

City Academy teaches participants about City government through experiential learning and in-depth exercises. It also helps develop future leaders and build a better community through well-informed, civically engaged residents.

Classes are held weekly from 5:45-9 pm September through November. During the course of the program, participants will tour various City-owned facilities and learn how City departments operate directly from staff and through fun, hands-on exercises.

The program is free and open to any resident who lives within the corporate limits of the City. Twenty-five people from all Council districts and various backgrounds will be selected. To participate, residents must be at least 18 years old and provide a personal statement saying why they wish to take part in the program. Preference will be given to residents willing to serve on a City board or commission.
