City Announces Selection of Interim Police Chief

GREENSBORO, NC – (July 2, 2010) – City Manager Rashad Young today announced the appointment of Assistant Police Chief Dwight Crotts to Interim Police Chief of the Greensboro Police Department, effective August 1. Police Chief Tim Bellamy is retiring from the post July 31 and the City is conducting a nationwide search for a new chief.

Crotts, who was appointed assistant chief in 2007, currently serves as commander of the Patrol Bureau and has worked in Patrol Operations, Internal Affairs, and the Tactical Division. Crotts has also served as a Patrol Division Executive Officer overseeing District Criminal Investigations and the Crime Abatement Team, and as a Patrol Division Commander including oversight of the Police Neighborhood Resource Center (PNRC) Unit. He joined the Greensboro Police Department in 1989.

A graduate of Shaw University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Crotts holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s in Public Affairs. He is also a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute, and the FBI National Academy.
 
Crott’s currently salary is $87,457.
