Train Derailment Closes Sections of Lee and Eugene Streets

GREENSBORO, NC -- (May 25, 2010) -- At about 1:40 am today, Tuesday, May 25, Greensboro Police and Fire responded to a train derailment near the intersection of W. Lee and S. Eugene streets. Norfolk Southern personnel were already on the scene and determined that no one was injured. However, this morning eastbound and westbound lanes of Lee Street will be blocked at S. Eugene Street and northbound and southbound lanes of Eugene Street will be blocked at W. Lee Street. Norfolk Southern personnel estimate the roadways will be cleared by early afternoon.

Alternate Routes
• Northbound traffic on S. Eugene Street coming into downtown will be detoured at W. Florida Street to Randleman Road or Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. 
• Southbound traffic on S. Eugene Street headed out of downtown will be detoured at W. Washington Street to S. Spring Street or S. Elm St.
• Westbound  traffic on Lee Street is recommended to take N. Murrow Blvd. toward downtown or S. Elm Street out of town.  
• Eastbound traffic on Lee Street is recommended to take Freeman Mill Road into downtown.
