City Extends Public Comment Period for Downtown Design Manual

GREENSBORO, NC (June 10, 2010) – The public still has time to comment on the revised Downtown Design Manual, a blueprint for promoting quality design, enhancing urban character and maintaining long-term compatibility in downtown Greensboro. The City of Greensboro has extended the public comment period through Thursday, June 24, at 5 pm.

Comments can be submitted to the City’s Planning Department via phone at 336-373-2144 or via mail to 300 W. Washington St., Greensboro, NC, 27402. Comments can also be made in person by visiting the Planning Department’s office located on the third floor of the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St.

The public is also invited to a follow-up meeting to review additional changes to the manual based on discussions during and after the May 25 public meeting. That meeting will be held Thursday, July 8, at 6 pm in the Greensboro Cultural Center’s board room, 200 N. Davie St.

The Downtown Design Manual was developed to enhance downtown Greensboro by providing clear, flexible guidance for new investment that promotes quality design and emphasizes a fully accessible, pedestrian-oriented environment. The current manual includes new options for property owners to meet voluntary design guidelines, while preserving the main content and general design aspects of the original manual developed by the Citizen Steering Committee, a team of downtown stakeholders.

The revised Downtown Design Manual can be viewed online at www.greensboro-nc.gov/downtowndesign.
