Guilford Metro 9-1-1 “Pulls Plug” for Emergency Preparedness Test
GREENSBORO, NC (February 24, 2010) – Guilford Metro 9-1-1- (GM 9-1-1) pulled the plug on its main 9-1-1 center yesterday, Tuesday, February 23, and switched all operations over to its backup center in what was a successful test of its Continuity of Operations Plan.
The plan was developed to ensure that GM 9-1-1 can continue to operate in the event that its main 9-1-1 center were to become compromised or unusable due to a natural or manmade disaster. GM 9-1-1 will make testing the plan part of its regular preparedness training.
“Disaster can strike at any time and it’s our job to be prepared,” said Wesley Reid, executive director of GM 9-1-1. “Having a fully-equipped and ready-to-go backup 9-1-1 center ensures that we are able to provide residents of Guilford County quality emergency services under a variety of conditions.”
GM 9-1-1 will continue testing its backup center through Friday, February 26, when it converts operations back to its main center.
