GPD Holds Graduation for New Recruits

GREENSBORO, NC – (April 22, 2010) – On Friday, April 23, 32 police recruits - ranging in age from 22 to 44 - will graduate from the Greensboro Police Department’s (GPD) Police Basic Introductory Course (PBIC). This will mark the department’s 91st graduating class. The graduation will be held at 1 pm at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown. Featured speaker will be Guilford County Superior Court Judge Stuart Albright.

Before Greensboro recruits graduate, they undergo more than 1,100 hours of intensive law enforcement training involving physical, mental and academic challenges, and must successfully complete state law enforcement certificate requirements. “The state only requires recruits to undergo 618 hours of police training, but we go above and beyond that so we can produce the best officers to patrol the streets of Greensboro,” said Capt. Brian L. James, head of GPD’s Training Division.

Following graduation, the new officers will be assigned to various field operation divisions and will work with a police training officer for 14 weeks. Once they successfully complete that portion of their training, they can begin patrolling on their own.

GPD is now preparing for the 92nd PBIC, set to begin July 1.
