City Merges Technology Departments to Better Serve Community

GREENSBORO, NC (July 7, 2010) – The City of Greensboro has merged the Information Technology and Enterprise Solutions departments to maximize resources, while improving delivery of information technology solutions to better serve the community. The merged departments, now known as the Information Technology (IT) Department, will be charged with providing leadership in implementing, supporting and maintaining technology within the organization to include public safety, network and server infrastructure, application development, financial reporting and geographic information systems, and other technology that is vital to the City’s operations.

City Manager Rashad Young has appointed Darryl Jones and Chryste Hofer to lead this new department as its director and deputy director, respectively.

“Darryl and Chryste both bring great strengths and years of experience to these roles,” said Young. “And the merger of these two departments will allow us to provide better internal service to our departments and agencies that directly serve the residents and businesses in our community.”

Jones, who has served as director of the City’s IT Department since 2000, joined the City in 1989 and has held several positions within the department, including data communications analyst and desktop services manager before being named director.
