City and YWCA Host Brown Bag Lunch Series to Empower Women

GREENSBORO, NC (April 23, 2010) – The City of Greensboro’s Commission on the Status of Women and the Greensboro YWCA are teaming up to inform and empower women through their Brown Bag Lunch Series. The free lunch series, which focuses on topics that are important to women, is held at 12 noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the YWCA, 4002 Spring Garden St.

The next session, titled “Invisible but Essential: Immigrant Women in America,” will be held Tuesday, April 27. This session touches on the role immigrant women play in our lives. Panelist include Kathy Hinshaw of the NC Center of New North Carolinians; Susan Feit, executive director of the National Conference for Community and Justice; Marikay Abuzuaiter, co-chair of the Human Relations Commission’s International Advisory Committee; and Laura Burton, attorney at Smith Moore LLP.

Upcoming lunch series topics include “Sick and Tired: Working Women and Their Health,” “Finding Your Mission: Re-evaluating Goals and Values,” “Where Have You Gone Roseanne Barr: Women in the Media,” “Single in a Marriage Centered World,” and “Remember Our History or We’ll be Doomed to Repeat It.”
