National Night Out Takes Place August 3
GREENSBORO, NC -- (July 22, 2010) -- National Night Out (NNO), a crime and drug prevention event sponsored locally by the Greensboro Police Department (GPD), takes place Tuesday, August 3, with events throughout the city. This unique crime and drug prevention event annually features more than 100 Greensboro neighborhoods and the City's participation in the national event has earned it 12 national awards from the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). NNO helps raise crime and drug prevention awareness in the community; generates support and participation in local anti-crime activities; helps strengthen the police-to-community partnership; and sends a strong message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, neighborhoods in Greensboro celebrate NNO with block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire departments, parades, flashlight walks, contests, and youth programs.
To participate in the event, residents can contact their neighborhood's Community Resource Officer or GPD's Community Affairs at 336-373-2636. For more information about this national event, visit www.natw.org/nno.
