GFD, GPD & Others Host Patriot Flag During Greensboro Visit October 22

GREENSBORO, NC – (October 13, 2010) – The public is invited to join the Greensboro Fire and Police departments and Guilford County Emergency Services on Friday, October 22, as they host the Patriot Flag during its stop at Greensboro. The ceremony is at 9 am at Fire Station 1, 1514 N. Church St. and features fire/police/emergency services Honor Guards, bagpipers, and the traditional ringing of the memorial bell. Fire Chief Greg Grayson, Police Assistant Chief Ron Rogers, and Guilford County Emergency Services Director Alan Perdue will speak at the ceremony also.

The cross-country travels of this 30-foot by 58-foot American flag are in honor of the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The flag will fly in all 50 states before it reaches its three final destinations -- Manhattan, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, Pa. -- the sites where Americans were killed. As the flag tours the country, it sends a message to the world and the families of those who died that "United We Stand - We have not forgotten."

“We are proud to be one of the few fire departments in North Carolina that has the opportunity to host this flag as a sincere tribute and demonstration of honor for the 343 firefighters from New York who lost their lives on 9-11-01," says Grayson.
