Peterson-Buie Selected as Interim City Attorney

GREENSBORO, NC – (August 31, 2010) – Becky Jo Peterson-Buie, the City of Greensboro’s chief deputy general counsel, has been appointed Interim City Attorney. Current City Attorney Terry Wood retires today after more than 24 years of service.

Peterson-Buie has been with the City since 1987, when she was hired as an assistant city attorney. Since then, she has risen within the Legal Department to the role of chief deputy general counsel and has been instrumental in successfully litigating cases in federal and state court. She has extensive contact with all City departments on personnel matters and has prepared the City’s contract procedures manual and advised boards and commissions on parliamentary procedures. Peterson-Buie also served in the capacity of Interim City Attorney from December 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 prior to Terry Wood returning to the City to take on the role of City Attorney.

“Becky Jo has been a solid and supportive force in our Legal Department and throughout the City for many years,” says City Manager Rashad Young who announced the appointment today. “Her knowledge of the law and her professionalism are highly valued and respected.”

The City is currently recruiting for a permanent City Attorney.
