Battleground Rail Trail Ribbon Cutting Slated for August 19

GREENSBORO, NC – (August 16, 2010) – The City of Greensboro hosts a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally open the first section of the Battleground Rail Trail and to dedicate the project as part of the Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway at 3 pm Thursday, August 19, along the trail between Rollins Street and the Cone Boulevard Underpass. Attendees driving to the event will be directed to a parking area on Rollins Street.

This first section of the Battleground Rail Trail begins just south of Pisgah Church Road and ends at Markland Drive. Future phase(s) will eventually extend the trail southward to downtown and become the western leg of the Downtown Greenway. This once active railroad corridor is being transformed into an active transportation corridor for bicyclists, pedestrians, and other non-motorized forms of transportation.
