Library's Summer Reading Program Sign-Up Begins June 1
GREENSBORO, NC -- (May 19, 2010) -- Sign-up for the Greensboro Public Library's annual Summer Reading program begins June 1 at each of the City's seven library branches. Participation is free. This year's program theme is "Make a Splash."
Simply go to your favorite library and register for how many books your children pledge to read this summer and then show them how to record the titles of the books they read (or listen to). Children who bring their reading record back to their library during prize periods, will receive rewards for their efforts. Special activities, movies and field trips are also available throughout the summer as part of the program and drawings will be held at each library for free Wet 'n Wild Emerald Point tickets.
For a full listing of Make a Splash events at each library branch, visit www.greensborolibrary.org/kids and click on the summer reading program calendar link.
According to Sandy Neerman, library director, the summer reading program is one of the most important programs the library offers. "Research shows that most children will lose reading skills and vocabulary if they do not keep reading during the summer months," she says. "When the library offers engaging programs that attract young people to reading, we are building an educated community of lifelong learners."
Providing financial and volunteer support to the Summer Reading program is the Greensboro Regional REALTORS Foundation. Other community sponsors this year include Chick-fil-A, Wet 'n Wild Emerald Point and Libby Hill Seafood.
