Supporters of McGirt-Horton Library Asked to Sign Registry

GREENSBORO, NC -- (August 2, 2010) -- The Library Board of Trustees is asking people who have supported the McGirt-Horton Branch Library throughout the years, culminating in the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility on August 26, to sign a Registry of Supporters book. The book is available to sign in the library's current location until it closes on August 8. When the new facility opens, the book will be available for signatures until September 3. A Grand Opening Celebration honoring the new library takes place at 5 pm Thursday, August 26, and the public is invited to attend.

“As I watch our new McGirt-Horton facility near completion, it feels like we have come a long way from that one-room reading station where we first started serving the Northeast part of the city,” said Library Director Sandy Neerman. “We certainly have a lot of people to thank and we have come up with a registry for people to sign so that we can preserve the names of all of our supporters in a permanent archive.”

“During the 24 years that this branch has been in service there have been countless contributors, volunteers, staff members and loyal customers who have gone the extra mile to make McGirt-Horton a true community hub for this neighborhood,” says Neerman. “Because it would be nearly impossible to recognize everyone on an individual basis, we hope that those who have made this branch what it is today will stop in and sign the Registry.”
