Santa’s Workshop Toy Drive Now Underway
GREENSBORO, NC -- (November 11, 2010) -- Now through December 7, the Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) is conducting its annual Santa’s Workshop Toy Drive. Residents are encouraged to clean out their closets and toy chests and 'go green' by donating gently-used toys for children, newborns to 13-years-old. The program also accepts new toys.
All used toys must be in good condition. Games and puzzles should be complete, boxed and taped. Toys should be placed in plastic bags or boxes. Violent toys (guns, spears, knives, etc.), food and clothing will not be accepted. Monetary donations will be accepted at the City of Greensboro Collections Office window, located in the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St.
Volunteers are also needed to help clean, repair and sort toys into specific types and appropriate age groups. Toy cleaning sessions will be held at Windsor Center as follows:
• Saturday, December 4, 1-3 pm
• Wednesday, December 8, 4-6 pm
• Thursday, December 9, 4-6 pm
• Friday, December 10, 4-6 pm.
Santa’s Workshop program sponsors include SunTrust Bank, WKRR Classic Rock 92, Mateer Storage Trailer Rental, Shamrock Paper Company, WKZL 107.5, Bonset Corporation, and Xerox. The program has assisted Guilford County families in need for more than 40 years. Last year, more than 400 local families (1,300 children) received toys through Santa’s Workshop. Families must be referred to GYC by an approved agency.
