Untreated Sewage Discharge Reported July 14
GREENSBORO, NC (July 15, 2010) – On July 14, the City of Greensboro had a discharge of approximately 1.45 million gallons of untreated wastewater from its T.Z. Osborne Water Reclamation Facility. The discharge lasted about six and a half hours and was caused by power and generator failure, which was complicated by extreme flows caused by heavy rain. The untreated wastewater entered the South Buffalo Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin.
No environmental impacts were observed or are expected as heavy rains caused very high flows in the creek before and after the discharge.
