Annual Shoppers’ Day Set for December 2
GREENSBORO, NC – (November 30, 2010) – The City of Greensboro Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities holds its 25th annual Shoppers’ Day on Thursday, December 2, from 9 am to 12 noon at Four Seasons Town Centre.
According to Greensboro Mayor William H. Knight, the event demonstrates the City’s commitment to the inclusion of all people and provides individual learning to those involved. “We endorse the shoppers and all the good things they do in and for our community. We are proud Shoppers’ Day is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It truly demonstrates one way to support our special-needs residents and it’s also a wonderful way to start the holiday season.”
Volunteers will accompany more than 200 shoppers with different abilities from area high schools and organizations throughout Guilford County, along with local residents. Volunteers gain valuable insight from persons with disabilities, while teaching the importance of empathy, acceptance and compassion. Volunteers also become aware of barriers that people with disabilities face on a daily basis and gain a heightened sense of awareness of the diverse population’s everyday obstructions.
The event also features entertainment, primarily by people with disabilities, throughout the morning. The master of ceremonies for the 2010 event will be Eddie Raynard.
