One City, One Book Lecture Features The Soloists' Sister
GREENSBORO, NC -- (October 6, 2010) -- "Reflections of a Sister" is the title of a One City, One Book lecture by Jennifer Ayers-Moore, sister of the main character of the project's featured book, The Soloist. Her talk, which is free and open to the public, focuses on the toll mental illness takes on its victims and families. The event takes place at 6 pm Wednesday, October 20, at the War Memorial Auditorium, 1921 W. Lee St.
Following the lecture there will be a free dress-rehearsal of a Greensboro Symphony Orchestra performance featuring cellist Julie Albers. The orchestra is a One City, One Book community partner and is sponsoring concerts that explore the redemptive power of music, one of the themes in The Soloist.
Ayers-Moore's brother Nathaniel developed schizophrenia more than 30 years ago, forcing him to drop out of the JuiIliard School of Music. Nathaniel, is the title subject of The Soloist, the featured read for Greensboro Public Library’s One City, One Book project. The Soloist focuses on the issues of homelessness, mental illness, and the power of music. Every two years the Library sponsors the community read as a way to bring residents together to discuss one book and the issues that relate to our community.
