Police Department Warns About False Solicitors

GREENSBORO, NC -- (December 28, 2010) -- Greensboro residents are advised to beware of telephone calls from solicitors stating they represent the Greensboro Police Department (GPD) and asking for cash donations for causes such as shoes for needy students at Gillespie Park Elementary School.

When calling, the solicitor(s) states that GPD is sponsoring the effort. However, the department does not solicit funds or donations by telephone for any purpose. GPD warns residents to be familiar with any soliciting organization and its fund-raising purposes before making donations.

Anyone with information about fraudulent solicitations can contact GPD's Criminal Investigations Division at 336-373-2255.
