Historical Museum's Festival Sunday is December 5

GREENSBORO, NC -- (December 3, 2010) -- The Greensboro Historical Museum's Festival Sunday is 2-5 pm Sunday, December 5, and free activities are planned for visitors of all ages.

Headlining the event for adults is a dramatic and humorous rendering of the classic "A Christmas Carol" with Elliot Engel at 2:30 pm. His talk, titled  "A Dickens of a Christmas," offers a look at why we celebrate the season with current symbolism and traditions. A Raleigh resident, Engel is a professor, author and lecturer who has spent 30 years studying Charles Dickens. Because of his work, Engel has been inducted into the Royal Society of Arts in England. His participation in this festival is made possible through the museum’s John Floy Wicker Endowment Fund, which is used to present a special educational event each year.

The highlight for children during the festival is storytime with Mrs. Claus at 2:30 pm. Also, throughout the afternoon, children can have their photos taken with Mrs. Claus. All children’s activities will be supervised by adults.

Museum visitors of all ages are also invited to test out authentic Whimmy Diddles, Button Spinners and other toys from Christmases past and vote for their favorite. And, during the festival, Greensboro books will be on sale in the Museum Shop for half price.

For more information about the events, call the museum at 373-2043.
