Public Invited to Open House on City’s Sustainability Action Plan
GREENSBORO, NC (May 6, 2010) – The City of Greensboro’s Community Sustainability Council (CSC) will host an open house meeting on the draft Sustainability Action Plan Thursday, May 13, from 4-8 pm. The meeting will be held at the Elm Street Center, Regency Room, 203 S. Elm St.
At the meeting, a formal presentation of the plan will be given at 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm and residents will be able to ask questions and provide feedback.
The CSC developed the plan to track Greensboro’s progress toward sustainability and to advise Greensboro City Council on how to better manage energy and resource use, reduce waste in City operations, and to promote sustainability throughout the community. The City will use the plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, enhance economic development opportunities, improve quality of life for residents, and save taxpayers money.
The plan focuses on topics identified by the CSC after working with City staff and the community for more than two years and studying the area’s greenhouse gas emissions. Topics included in the plan are transportation and land use, green jobs and buildings, waste reduction and recycling, City operations, nature in the city, education and outreach, green technologies, and adaption to climate change. The plan features 12 policies with supporting strategies for implementation.
