City Puts Sole Responsibility of Unpaid Water Bills on Tenants
GREENSBORO, NC (June 4, 2010) – Effective July 1, rental properties where the water account is held in the tenant’s name will no longer be eligible to have a lien placed on them. Tenants will be solely responsible for unpaid water bills when the account is in their name. This resolution was passed by Greensboro City Council at its October 20, 2009 meeting. The new resolution affects rental properties that have not terminated service or had final bills mailed before July 1.
Also, beginning July 1, water deposits for residential rental properties will increase to $150, while the minimum deposits for commercial rental properties will increase to $200. The current $15 non-refundable service fee for setting up new accounts will not change. Current deposits on accounts paid before July 1 will not be increased.
