April 7 Water Festival Provides Students with Valuable Lessons

GREENSBORO, NC – (April 6, 2010) – The City's Water Resources and Parks and Recreation departments play host to area fifth graders from 9 to 1 pm Wednesday, April 7, as part of the ninth annual Water Festival at Bryan Park / Lake Townsend Marina / Townsend Water Treatment Plant, 6275 Bryan Park Road, Browns Summit.

More than 400 local students will participate in eight fun and exciting hands-on water activities that support the fifth grade curriculum. Topics covered by the activities include the city’s water distribution system, water cycle, fish identification, stream biology, erosion, water conservation, and water treatment chemicals.

The event also provides training opportunities for the Guilford County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Guilford Association of SCUBA Personnel (GASP). In addition, students from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management Program will gain skills in leadership development while assisting with the event.
